Abstract/Summary

‘The fieldwalking and trenching have successfully characterised the archaeological potential of the site. A very modest number of features were revealed, most obviously that of a levelled round barrow, initially identified by geophysical survey and other cut features hint at a low level of some other activity. Of the 50 trenches excavated, only four contained archaeological features. Such features might relate to the modest volume of struck flint and chert form field walking which indicate the presence of small occupation sites as well as the manuring of farmland. The presence of Roman pottery from fieldwalking, however, was not obviously matched by cut features, and is more likely to reflect manuring. Most geophysical anomalies were shown to be geological variations.’
