SDO16438 - A303 Wincanton to Zeals Improvement Scheme, WBP 91

'Fieldwalking on an 8 kilometre stretch of the new A303 Wincanton to Zeals improvement scheme resulting in the identification of 20 sites of archaeological significance. The sites ranged in date from the Neolithic through to post medieval with most Roman material being concentrated in the western half of the survey line. Three archaeological excavations of differing size resulted from the survey, with a fourth excavation, at Stoke Lane, Bayford completed before the survey began. The largest excavation, at Encie Farm, proved the existence of an important prehistoric occupation site. '
