Abstract/Summary
Report on analysis of wood charcoal recovered during excavations in the late 1880s by General Pitt Rivers. The material was examined at the time and identified as Sweet Chestnut, making this evidence of the introduction of the species into Britain. Re-evaluation indicated that the material could not securely be identified to species.
