Abstract/Summary
‘Archaeological monitoring and recording were undertaken in June and August 2018 during the groundworks associated with the construction of a single-storey extension to the rear 17 Icen Way, Dorchester, Dorset. The work was undertaken in compliance with a condition of planning consent where the monitoring involved the recording of footing trenches and associated groundworks. The remnants of a mid-late Romano-British soil horizon was revealed that was overlain by a medieval subsoil. A small quantity of pottery and ceramic building material were recovered from both layers and are consistent with activity principally occurring during the 2nd–3rd century and the 12th–14th centuries AD. No archaeological features were observed during the groundworks.’
