Title | Geophysical Survey of Hardown Hill Barrow Group |
Author/Originator | Papworth, M |
Date/Year | 2017 |
Abstract/Summary
Following clearance of Hardown Hill by National Trust rangers, a geophysical survey was carried out. The site comprised a group of barrows and some unidentified earthworks. In 1916 a group of early Anglo-Saxon iron objects had been found and an excavation carried out but poorly recorded. The survey did not reveal any further information to date or identify the earthworks. No further evidence of Anglo-Saxon burials with iron grave goods was found close to the barrows although these may lie under the central part of the barrows and ferrous readings near one of the barrows may be of archaeological interest.
