SDO16113 - Land North-East of Blandford Forum, Archaeological Geophysical Survey

A geophysical survey was undertaken as a method of archaeological field evaluation in connection with a proposed housing development. A magnetometer survey was carried out using Bartington 1m fluxgate gradiometers along 1m transects plotted at 25ch intervals. The site itself was divided into fields numbered 1-6. The most conspicuous features detected were cultivation effects such as possible evidence of ridge and furrow cultivation and a possible ditch to the south of the site in field 6 which may indicate the remains of a field system. There were also smaller features of unestablished significance.
