Abstract/Summary
Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by the Duchy of Cornwall to undertake outstanding archaeological mitigation on land north of Poundbury Farm in relation to continued development. The site for excavation was formerly inaccessible and situated between areas previously excavated. 45 features were revealed relating to known Romano-British agricultural, industrial and mortuary activity. A part of an unknown enclosure was revealed as well as an inhumation cemetery group with outlying graves one dating to the Bronze Age. Further features revealed included a masonry-lined oven or kiln and possible remains of metal-working.
