Title | Report on the Geophysical Survey of a group of four Bronze Age Burial Mounds on Golden Cap |
Author/Originator | Papworth, Martin |
Date/Year | 2011 |
Abstract/Summary
Earth Resistivity and Fluxgate Gradiometer surveys were carried out across a linear group of four Bronze Age burial mounds on Golden Cap, Stanton St Gabriel. The survey revealed useful information which was tested by excavation. The construction of the barrows was revealed with one being an earthen mound while others were cairns. No evidence for quarry ditches was seen nor evidence for funerary pits. A discrete scatter of flint was found near one barrow including scrapers and a barbed and tangled arrowhead. The extent of the Napoleonic signal station was revealed and its impact on the barrows.
