Title | New Fisherman's Boathouse, Kimmeridge Bay, Purbeck, Dorset. Archaeological Monitoring during Ground Clearance |
Author/Originator | Bellamy, P |
Date/Year | 2017 |
Terrain Archaeology | 53465/3/1 |
Abstract/Summary
'Terrain Archaeology monitored the initial ground clearance and lifting of a concrete surface, in preparation for the construction of a new replacement boathouse immediately adjacent to the Marine Centre on Kimmeridge Bay. The works were largely within an existing terrace for an earlier boathouse or similar, but a small part of the burnt shale deposit was exposed. No dating evidence for this deposit was recovered but it is most likely associated with the seventeenth century glassworks that lay in close proximity.'
