Title | Woodbury Hill: Underground electricity cable - watching brief |
Author/Originator | Manley, H P |
Date/Year | 2009 |
Abstract/Summary
The excavation of a high voltage cable trench at Woodbury Hill was proposed by Scottish and Southern Energy. The site contains the remains of an Iron Age Hillfort and medieval market and chapel. An archaeological watching brief was carried out during ground works. This revealed the possible remains of ramparts associated with the hillfort and a large piece of dressed limestone which may have come from a medieval chapel located within the hillfort. A possible post medieval token and a Roman coin were also recovered.
