Abstract/Summary
‘An archaeological evaluation was under taken by Cotswold Archaeology during July 2016 on land off School Hill, Chickerell, Weymouth, Dorset. Thirty trenches were excavated with a series of Romano-British ditches and possible pits recorded in four of the trenches. The ditches represent field boundaries and drainage features relating to a probable Romano-British farmstead located external to the site, somewhere within the wider landscape.
Other contemporary farmsteads and settlements are known of locally upon similar coastal promontories including those at Radipole and Portesham. Other evidence comprising later medieval/post-medieval ground consolidation was also recorded.’
