Abstract/Summary

‘An application for outline planning permission has been submitted for the erection of a dwelling on a parcel of land immediately north of 50 The Ridgeway, Upwey, Weymouth. The site lies on the south-facing slopes of the South Dorset Ridgeway, which is an area rich in prehistoric remains. In the immediate surroundings of the Site, there are the remains of medieval strip lynchets and post-medieval quarries and extractive pits. The course of the Roman road between Dorchester and Radipole passed just to the east of the site, but any remains appear to have been removed by quarrying activity. No heritage assets are recorded on the site itself, which has been landscaped and terraced and with a late postmedieval extractive pit in its western part. The terracing of the site is likely to have removed or very severely truncated any archaeological remains on the site.’
