Abstract/Summary
‘The existence of known ring ditches, linear and rectilinear field systems and enclosures has been confirmed by the geophysical survey and their locations accurately pinpointed on the mapping. Additionally, other features of a similar nature which do not appear on aerial photographs (AP), have been recorded magnetically.
The general level of magnetic response is low, even over known features. In such circumstances, the interpretation of anomalies of potential archaeological interest is difficult; recognising responses becomes more subjective and confidence levels diminish. However, given that features have been identified, despite the difficulties, it can be argued that if other archaeological features were present there is no a priori reason why they should not show magnetically. Therefore, the results can be deemed to be a good reflection of the presence or absence of buried archaeology.’
