Abstract/Summary

‘In January 2014 Cotswold Archaeology was commissioned by Good Energy Ltd. to carry out a heritage desk-based assessment of land at Oaklands, Wareham, Dorset. Development of the site for solar panels will not harm any known heritage assets either physically or non-physically through effects upon setting. There is no evidence for buried archaeological remains at the proposed development site. Based on evidence for Bronze Age and Iron Age activity in the wider landscape, and due to the site having consisted of heathland throughout most of its history, there is considered to be a limited potential for currently unrecorded prehistoric archaeological remains within the proposed development site. Due to a possible Roman road passing the site there is also considered to be a very limited potential for buried remains from the Roman period occurring at the site. The development proposals would thus be compliant with national and local heritage policy, including the requirements of NPPF and the Purbeck District Local Plan.’
