Abstract/Summary

‘An archaeological watching brief was carried out by Terrain Archaeology between October and December 2007 during the groundworks associated with the construction of a new French drain and associated works at Sydling St Nicholas Church, Dorset. Eighteen burials were exposed along the north and west sides of the church. All were aligned East-West and appeared to be arranged in rows running North-South. None of the burials were dated, but pottery of 13th- 16th century date was recovered from the graveyard soils. A small area of flint footing of the east end of the nave was exposed. A fragment of 13the century Purbeck Marble coffin lid had been re-used as paving outside the West Tower.’
