Abstract/Summary
‘Archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken in August 2015 during groundworks for the excavation of a service trench for the recycling and water purification plant at the Hall & Woodhouse Brewery site at Blandford St Mary, Dorset (NGR ST 886057). The archaeological investigation comprised the monitoring of a service trench within Zone A, located along the current access road adjacent to the H & W Car Park.
Despite changes to the landscape, such as terracing and a substantial depth of made ground, a number of features of archaeological interest were recorded as a result of the monitoring works. These comprised a linear ditch feature, a pit, and a series of spreads of industrial debris, likely dating to the post-medieval period, with at least one linear ditch feature containing material datable to the Iron Age.’
