Abstract/Summary

‘An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during groundworks associated with the construction of a new garden store at Hill Close, Studland, Dorset (NGR SZ031822) and recorded a mixed loam deposit up to 0.9m thick containing Romano-British pottery. At the base of this deposit a number of cut features were noted, possibly of industrial function. Of especial note was the recovery of three dressed stone stele; probably boundary stones of Romano-British date and of a type unique to the Isle of Purbeck. The archaeological deposits are considered to be associated with the adjacent Romano-British site on Woodhouse Hill.’
