Abstract/Summary
‘An archaeological watching brief was carried out by Terrain Archaeology between March and June 2007 during the groundworks associated with the erection of three blocks of flats at Grangecroft Road, Weston, Portland, Dorset. No features or deposits of archaeological interest were observed.
Much of the site appears to have been previously disturbed with large spreads of modern levelling material being observed across the site. The deposit thought to be a possible Iron Age/Roman midden found in the 2004 evaluation excavation was not observed but was probably a lens within these levelling layers, rather than an in situ occupation deposit. It may have been the disturbed remains of Iron Age/Roman activity on the site.’
