Title Trial Excavation at Frampton House, Dorset, June 5-6 1999
Author/Originator
Date/Year 1999

Abstract/Summary

Report presents the results of two trial-trenches excavated on the lawn of Frampton House to determine the nature of the remains of the demolished part of the hiuse, and to seek evidence for the medieval Benedictine Priory which may previously have stood at the site. It concludes: " The lawns of the present Frampton House thinly cover the rubble of the demolished Frampton House. The demolition has removed all usable materials. The resulting rubble has been used to fill the cellars, and the remainder spread evenly over the site. All the finds (reburied on site) were of the nineteenth and twentieth century. No trace was found to suggest the presence of the former Priory at this spot. There would seem to be no archaeological reason to prevent the construction of an extension to Frampton House."
