Abstract/Summary
'Parker Jones Ltd (Mike Parker Homes) were granted planning permission to build three houses with garages on land adjoining Southcombe, Church Lane, Piddletrenthide, Dorset. (OS Grid Ref. ST 7021 0067) on condition that an archaeological watching brief was carried out during the groundworks. The contract for the watching brief was awarded to Southern Archaeological Services Ltd of Southampton.
Observations took place between Augst 1st-6th 1994 and November 15th-18th 1994. The geology was topsoil over chalk. The observations revealed a Mediaeval pit and ditch, with a further possible Mediaeval ditch and Mediaeval pathway. There was also evidence of Mediaeval and later ploughing. Evidence of an 18th century structure and demolition was found. From the mid 19th century the area seems to have been used as an area of dumping.'
