Abstract/Summary

GSB Prospection carried out a geophysical survey of three areas along the proposed route of the Wesymouth Relief Road. At the northern end of the scheme on the crest of the hill, strong geophysical responses may attest a trackway, possible enclosures and possible industrial activity, potentiallr representing sevaral different phases of activity. In the area close to Redlands, two parallel ditch-type anomalies suggest known Roman settlement extends east of the Dorchester-Weymouth railway line, although survey to the north indicates settlement is confined to this field. Elsewhere, scanning located no anomalies of archaeological potential.
