Abstract/Summary

Interim report presenting the summary results of archaeological trial-excavations undertaken by Southern Archaeological Services at site code SAS50, Longham Reservoir, Dorset, between the 9th of October and the 14th November 1995. Works covered by this report comprised the manual excavation of a cruciform pattern of test pits over the position of a possible prehistoric 'ring feature' previously identified as a cropmark. Additional trenching was also carried out at the north end of the test-pit array to investigate a possible feature. Three possible anthropogenic pits were identified but none could be dated: a linear 'gully' (in TT2) is probably natural in origin. included a partial topographic survey and the excavation of four trial trenches across a possible agricultural headland and two further trenches within the area enclosed by the headland. Of these, only one trench across the headland produced archaeologically significant.
