Abstract/Summary

Interim report presenting the summary results of archaeological trial-excavations undertaken by Southern Archaeological Services at site code SAS50, Longham Reservoir, Dorset, beginning 9th August 1995. Works included a partial topographic survey and the excavation of four trial trenches across a possible agricultural headland and two further trenches within the area enclosed by the headland. Of these, only one trench across the headland produced archaeologically significant deposits; Trench 6 encountered a buried soil layer, scarcely differentiated from natural clay, but containing burnt flint and potentially prehistoric pottery fragments. Internally, Trench c encountered three pits of unknown date.
