Abstract/Summary
‘The County Archaeological Officer recommended to Wessex Water that archaeological observation and recording should take place during this scheme, and said that the D.C.C. Archaeology Service would be willing to carry out the work.
The work involved tunnel-boring beneath the back gardens of the houses at Duntish Oaks, and the laying of a pipe near the east edge of the field to the south (see attached location map). I visited the site on Tuesday 31 January 1995. Topsoil had been roughly removed over a 2m width in the northern part of the field only, and pipe trench excavation had just begun. The ground was very wet, and the groundworks had caused a lot of disturbance. Consequently, there was no clear surface of subsoil to inspect. No features or finds were seen.’
