Abstract/Summary
‘Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by Savills Chartered Surveyors on behalf of their client, Mr H J C Ross Skinner of Warmwell House, to undertake an archaeological evaluation of the site of a proposed Manège within the site of an old walled garden in the village of Warmwell, Dorset (NGR SY 75268595).
Two trenches, representing c. 3.5% of the development area, were machine excavated and hand cleaned. The trenches revealed a short length of ditch, probably of late 12th or 13th century date, a shallow linear feature of 17th or 18th century date and a number of undated features. The medieval ditch probably represents a field or property boundary. Finds of medieval pottery from the topsoil possibly indicate activity of this date in the vicinity of the site, however no structural remains were encountered.’
