Abstract/Summary
A preliminary archaeological assessment of an area of proposed gravel extraction has involved the recording of geotechnical trial pits and scanning of available field surfaces for displaced artefacts. While no specific archaeological deposits were recorded in the trial pits approximately 45% of them contained worked flint, probably of Bronze Age date. While the density of finds was not high the occurrence of this material was restricted to the north and north-west area of the site. Similarly, fieldwalking has shown there to be a concentration of finds in this north-west zone. The presence of this material may indicate prehistoric activity, possibly of a settlement character.
