Abstract/Summary

Observations were maintained during underground cable replacement in the vicinity of Winterborne Kingston, Dorset (SY 869979), adjacent to the line of the Roman Road from Durnovaria (Dorchester) to Badbury Rings. The work revealed sections across the fabric of the road and also evidence of 13th century activity at Abbot’s Court Farm. Further observations were also carried out in the upper part of the Winterborne valley, during the replacement of overhead cable support poles. Initial assessment of this work indicated that it was likely to be of limited value and the programme of observation was halted. The archive is currently stored at Old Sarum under the site code 39702, but will be deposited at Dorset County Museum, Dorchester in due course.
