Abstract/Summary
‘The archaeological evaluation of the proposed new playing fields and the first stage of evaluation of the proposed new northern perimeter fence (Field A) was carried out in November 1995. The evaluation comprised the excavation of seven mechanically-excavated trenches covering a total area of 1,621m2. A large number of natural, peri-glacial, features were recorded, but no other subsoil features could be shown to be of pre-modern date. Features thought to relate to one of the possible cropmarks (site 16) identified in the desk-based assessment can be shown to be modern. While the possibility remains that archaeological deposits might survive locally within the area these are not considered to be extensive. The proposed developments in Field A cannot therefore be shown to involve significant archaeological impacts.’
