Abstract/Summary

The following report contains the results of assessment work carried out during February 1987 along the proposed route of the BP Wytch Farm access road. The road begins at the Norden Roundabout some 0.5km north of Corfe Castle, Dorset (SY 9545 8282) on the A341, and runs east north east to the gathering station at Wytch Farm (SY 9748 8509). Apart from the possible field boundary located by trial trenching in grid square 23 no archaeological features were located, nor any artefacts found. This implies that this area is outside the area utilised by the Roman-British settlement and industrial site to the south east. The total lack of artefacts would be consistent with a lack of archaeological activity through the trenches are far enough apart to have missed very localised archaeological activity.
