Abstract/Summary

An archaeological watching brief was carried out by Terrain Archaeology in July 2010, during the digging of the inspection test pits within the range of outhouses and the courtyard and garden to the rear of the New Inn, 14 Long Street, Cerne Abbas (centred on OS NGR ST66490110). The test pits indicated that no original floor surfaces survived within the outhouses, but a later rough stone paving survived in one room. The remains of a flint cobbled courtyard to the rear of the New Inn were also partially exposed. A single archaeological feature, probably a medieval burgage boundary ditch, pre-dating the construction of the outhouses was observed.
