Abstract/Summary

The assessment was intended to outline the potential for further analysis arising from the excavation of c.12ha of land known as Woodsford Farm targeting post-excavation resources. It took place as a condition of planning consent for extraction of minerals by Hills Quarry Products. The area examined was known as The Plant Area situated at the north-west of the site. A 20m wide haul road was also excavated in this area. Previous evaluation carried out as part of the planning application had revealed extensive areas of occupation and landscape features highlighting 11 areas of higher archaeological potential representing deposits of early prehistoric through to Roman date. The report described in detail the evidence for land management in the Roman period, and paucity of evidence for prehistoric ativity.
