Title | Summary report on the results of an archaeological evaluation at: Windmills Riding Stables |
Author/Originator | Reilly, D |
Date/Year | 2009 |
Abstract/Summary
This report describes the results of a pre-planning archaeological evaluation undertaken at Windmill Riding stables, on land immediately Southeast of the Southwell Business Park, Portland. The archeological evaluation was carried out at the proposed development site centred at NGR SY 68250 69816 between 23rd and 26th May 2009.
The evaluation firmly established the sequence of deposits across the site and the finds suggest a significance prehistoric presence of the Mesolithic period.
A total of over 5Kg weight of lithic material was recovered from all of the test pits and trenches and included cores, blades, scrapers, micrpliths and depitage. Expert opinion was sought to assess this assemblage and is decrpibed in a follow up report, Ref SDO 15281, dated October 2009.
