Abstract/Summary

An archaeological field evaluation was carried out in June 1995 by Wessex Archaeology as part of a development occuring on the site. Three hand-dug test pits totalling some five squere metres by area, were excavated within the footprint of a proposed new building. One undated ditch was located in test pit 2. It is possible that the feature forms part of a flanking ditch for the adjacent Dorchester - Ilchester Roman road. A small collection of possibly prehistoric worked flint was recovered from the site, along with post-medieval materials. No evidence was seen that might indicate the presence of remains associated with a seventh-eighth centuiry cemetery previously recorded at Frome View, to the south of the site.
