Abstract/Summary

Parnham House lies on the east side of the River Brit, to the south of Beaminster (centred on ST500028). The house is known to have a medieval foundation but much of the surviving building and grounds are the result of major rebuilding and extension in the early 19th and early 20th centuries. The house lies in parkland and the present gardens are largely a 20th century creation. The area surrounding Parnham House has few recorded archaeological sites and findspots and all can be considered of no more than local significance. No archaeological remains have been recorded from the site itself. it is considered that the scale of the modern rebuilding and landscaping is likely to have disturbed any traces of earlier structures. Overall, it is considered that the site has a low archaeological potential.
