SDO11610 - The Archaeological Evaluation of Land at Blandford St Mary, Dorset, Centred on ST884054; Summary Results of the Stage 1 Assessment: Desk Based Study

AC Archaeology conducted an archaeological desk based assessment of land at Blandford St Mary in advance of propsed housing development. Documentary and cartographic evidence for an early 19th century or earlier chalk quarry was set out in the report. There is no potential for survival of archaeological deposits in the area of the quarry and it is therefore proposed to exclude this zone from the field evaluation. The total area to be assessed will therefore be c.5.5 hectares which, at a sample size of 1.5%, will involve the excavation of 825m² of trench or a total trench length of 688m x 1.20m.
