Abstract/Summary
A largely desk-based archaeological assessment has been undertaken to assess development proposals for the site. The site occupies a position on the East Borough frontage which was part of a 13th-century suburb development. There is no positive evidence for archaeological deposits on the site, although a map of c. 1613 shows buildings on the East Borough frontage. These may be a stylised representation and cannot in themselves be seen as indicating medieval occupation. The tenurial history of the site can be traced back to the late 16th century, but this does not supply evidence for specific activity on the site. A previous archaeological evaluation to the south of the site failed to reveal in situ archaeological deposits.
