Abstract/Summary
'An archaeological watching brief was carried out by Terrain Archaeology in August 2007 during the groundworks associated with the erection of two dwellings at the rear of 20 West Street, Wareham, Dorset. Although the site lies within the historic core of Wareham, very little evidence for intensive occupation was found. A small number of possible medieval pits and postholes were found, but dating evidence was lacking. These features were sealed by a deep deposit of garden soils, which attest to a long period of occupation, but very little material remains were recovered. A small number of post-medieval and modern features including two brick-lined wells and brick-lined pits were found. The general impression gained is that this area, behind the street frontage has been largely used for gardening.'
