Abstract/Summary

Collation and analysis of publically available cartographic, documentary and photographic sources relating to the archaeology and history of the former Clinic site adjacent to Castle Hill House in Bimport (Street), Shaftesbury in Dorset concludes that the site is of considerable archaeological significance, potentially encompassing high quality, relatively undisturbed archaeological deposits of early and later medieval date. Though the proposed development is neither great in extent or intensive in nature, the terraced foundation levels proposed are likely to have a deleterious impact on archaeological deposits of considerable importance.
