Abstract/Summary
'Excavations in advance of the new Waitrose supermarket complex at Gillingham, Dorset revealed a sequence of ditched enclosures and boundaries dating to the 13th and 14th centuries. The site lies on the fringe of an area above the floodplain of the River Stour where extensive earthworks exist which may once have formed part of a sub-urban Medieval settlement and associated fields south of the river adjacent to a ford crossing.'
