Abstract/Summary

'During April 1993, a watching brief was undertaken at 6 Halves Cottages, Corfe Castle. The purpose was to monitor the excavation of foundation trenches for the construction of a new single dwelling. Two phases of archaeological activity were recorded: 1. a north-south aligned U-shaped ditch or gully with a depth of 0.55m, and a width of 0.70m. Black Burnished Ware pottery was found, dating from the period mid 2nd century AD to the 4th century AD. 2. A cultivated soil layer from the post-medieval period, which contained pottery from the Verwood kilns.'
