Abstract/Summary
‘In December 1997, Wessex Archaeology was commissioned…to undertake an archaeological watching brief on land at St. Anthony’s Convent…’ the redevelopment comprised the demolition of most upstanding buildings and the construction of 13 houses. The watching brief only observed the groundworks for the construction of houses 1 to 7 at this stage. No features or archaeological deposits were observed during topsoil stripping and only three late post-medieval features were observed in the footings trenches. These included an 18th-19th century pit in the area of house 2, a 19th century dump in the area of house 6 and a 20th century pit in the area of house 1.
