Abstract/Summary

‘A desk assessment was carried out by Southern Archaeological Services in April 1996…[this] showed that the site lies in an area of significant Neolithic and Bronze Age settlement, which was unknown before recent excavations. The site also has the potential to test the theory of the development of Sherborne from a supposed Romano-British religious enclosure (Lanprobi) into the Saxon settlement. The site also lies on the edge of the medieval planned borough of Newland, and further work could clarify the development of medieval Sherborne.’ (1)
