Title | A discovery of 16th or 17th century pottery, Oborne Road, Sherborne. Proceedings of the Dorset Natural History and Archaeological Society |
Author/Originator | Bean, C E |
Date/Year | 1952 |
Abstract/Summary
C.E. Bean observed the cutting back of rock in the hillside behind and to the east of the Black Horse Hotel to form a new car park at ST 64441681 during 1952.
Several small earlier quarry pits were revealed, containing green glazed pottery with curvilinear ornament and whitish slip and some with yellow-glaze, similar to that from the upper levels at Sherborne castle (16th-17th century). Clay pipes were recovered from the soil above the pits.
