Abstract/Summary
ASI Heritage Consultants conducted a watching brief during groundworks for the construction of a new overflow, draining the fishpond at St. Peter's Abbey, Abbotsbury, in October 2004.
The groundworks were completed in a single day and were observed continually. The edges of the machined area were cleaned manually and spoil was scanned for artefacts. No artefacts were recovered. No archaeological deposits or features were recorded earlier than 1885 AD. The later deposits include the late 19th century or later surface of New Barn Road and a 20th century pond lining of beach pebbles.
