Abstract/Summary
ASI client report conducted in advance of planning permisssion for residential development at Royalty Fishery House, Christchurch.
No record of any archaeological discoveries within the application area were noted
The application area is located close to a major urban settlement known to have been in existence since the 8th century AD and to have been preceded by a large pagan Anglo-Saxon cemetery located approximately 300m to the south.
Possible medieval suburban defences lie approximately 75metres to the south of the application area.
Although nor records of archaeological finds exist for the area of the application, the proximity of other major features near Royalty Fishery House, will necessitate an evaluation excavation to be undertaken in an area to be agreed with the senior archaeologist of Dorset County Council.
