Abstract/Summary
Brief catalogue of Roman inscriptions found in 1985. This includes the following entries for Dorchester (on page 435), reproduced here in full.
7. Dorchester (Durnovaria, SY 702899), Alington Avenue, Fordington (PL. XXXIIA). Upper part of a quadrangular milestone of Portland limestone, 0.35 m by 0.54 m, 0.22 m thick, found during excavations in 1985, re-used in the construction of a late ROman building, about a kilometre south-east of the Roman town. The inscription reads: IMP[…] POSTVMMO AUG, Im(eratori) […] Postuo Aug(usto), ‘for the Emperor … Postumus Augustus …’.
