Abstract/Summary

This report presents an interim summary of the results of archaeological excavations carried out in June 1995 at the West Dorset Leisure Centre, Coburg Road, Dorchester by Wessex Archaeology. The work was occasioned by the extension of existing buildings within the precincts of the Thomas Hardye School, and area already the subject of extensive archaeological work during 1994, and hopefully the subject of a post-excavation programme leading to monograph publication by the Dorset Natural History and Archaeological Society. It is intended, therefore that the results of the present work will be incorporated in the larger corpus at a later date. The excavations, in two separate trenches, revealed a small number of prehistoric pits and ditches beneath depths of made-ground and shallow modern disturbances. Small quantities of pottery and worked flint were recvered, for analysis at a later date.
