Summary

Observation of a pipeline along St James's Close revealed the remains of four adult inhumations and one infant. Full Description

Excavations within St James Close, north of the church, produced ceramic evidence for continuous occupation since the 13th century, with structural evidence for two phases of Medieval occupation. A watching brief within this area also located several inhumations which may be part of the Medieval churchyard. <1>

SZ 00829046: Excavations carried out north of St James' Church in 1973 produced pottery and food refuse dating from the 13th century until the 18th century. It is thought, due to the close proximity to the church, that this site may represent a priests' house or oratory. <2>
