Summary

Parish Church, rebuilt 1819-21 by John Kent of Southampton and Joseph Hannaford of Christchurch, in simplified Gothic style, broadly Perpendicular. Purbeck ashlar with slate roofs.

Full Description

The ancient church of St James was built in the 15th and 16th centuries. It was demolished in 1819 and replaced by the present church, completed in 1820. <2-3>

Within the modern church of St James are portions of an altar tomb from the earlier church on this site. There are no other visible remains of the ancient church. <4>

Parish Church of St. James, Grade 2. Rebuilt 1820 Georgian Gothic style. Contains monuments and brasses from the earlier church. <5-6>
