Summary

A Bronze Age bowl barrow, covered with trees and ploughed to its edge is located 200 m to the south east of The Warren Wood. The barrow is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 2006.

Full Description

Bowl Barrow, covered with trees ploughed to edge. 13 paces diameter x 3 1/2ft high. <2>

This area is so heavily overgrown with brambles, thornbushes and nettles as to be impenetrable.

It was possible to ascertain that the barrow has not been levelled. <3>

No change to Auth <5>. In fair condition. Scrub covered. 40m OD. 1:2500 correct. <7>

The Bronze Age bowl barrow, described above in <1-7 and 2.1) is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 2006. The barrow is formed of a mound measuring 13 m in diameter <9>. This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).

‘Situated in the NW corner of a field planted with a root crop when visited. This prominent rise covered in dense blackberry and hawthorn. The perimeter of the barrow on the E and S has been squared and steepened by basal ploughing. To the N and W tracks converge passing close to the mound and creating a false berm on the N. Some damage by animal burrows visible on W. Mound diam. 13.1m and Ht. 1.2m. OS SZ08SW20. 1/2/C.’
